Fall is Here - It’s Time to Reboot!
Yep, it’s that time again. The kids are back in school, everybody is coming back from vacation, and it’s time to get back on track with all the things you didn't get done over the Summer! (Don’t worry, we all do it. We’re not here to judge.)
Going back to school was always fun: new clothes, new backpack, new Trapper Keeper and a fresh start. Why should that be any different as an adult? The changing of the seasons is a great time to jumpstart the implementation of new projects and good work habits.
Here’s a couple things you can do to reboot your business this fall...
Tackle the Tough To-Dos You Put Off All Summer
Hey...we get it! The kids are home. There’s a ton of fun stuff to do outside. The LAST thing you want to be doing as an independent worker is sitting in an office 9-5 wrestling with your never ending to-do list. That said, sometimes the things we tag as the hardest are actually only so because we THINK they are. Imagine how much more productive you’ll be when you’re not worrying about that dreaded task on your list? Do yourself a favor and block out a 90 min sprint to check it off as complete. Matrix Coworking has a variety of different rooms with all types of furniture to help you get productive, whether that means working at a desk or stretching out on a couch.
Follow Up on your Summer Networking
Summer is when we’re bopping around town from event to event. The High Tech Happy hours are hopp’n, Concerts on the Square are in full effect, and let’s not forget Forward Fest! So many new contacts, so little time. September is a great time to follow up with all of those Summer contacts you made and set up times to meet. If you’re looking for an excuse as to why that person should meet with you, give the tired “Let’s meet for coffee” invite a break and instead invite them to a coworking session with you...perhaps during our free week of coworking?
Goal Setting for the End of the Year
Fall is a great time to take a moment to assess both where you’ve been and where you’re going. Take some time to sit down and outline your goals for the rest of the year and your strategy for getting there. Ask yourself if those goals really the ones you need to tackle to get to where you want to be in 2020 and beyond. As Bill Gates says "Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in a lifetime" So take a step back to see if the goals you set out in January are still feasible… and for those that are, find a way to break them down into bite size tasks.
Get Yourself Back on Schedule
It feels so good to get into a routine whether it be going to the gym, getting into a work-flow or even having a reoccuring social plan with friends. Yet, ask anyone who’s signed up for fitness classes on January 1st, and they’ll tell you just how easy it is to fall out of those routines. Behavior chains, and the “if-then planning” mentality might be just what you need to get back into the swing of things, professionally speaking. It can be so hard to stay focused on the task at hand at home when the laundry is taunting you or when there’s a toddler temper tantrum at the coffee shop. (Ironic, if that’s what you left home to get away from.) Good thing we have a solution for that… Coworking!
Joining a coworking space doesn’t mean you have to go all day, every day of the week. Even if you want to keep the “coffee shop office”, or you have a workspace at home. Coworking can be a great supplement to get you out of the house, help you change up your work environment, and connect with other independent workers who share the same pain points. Perhaps time block for a select day (or two or three) where you know you’ll be able to get specific tasks done in a productive environment of your choosing.
So grab those new pens, post-its and notebooks and come cowork with us during our Free Fall Reboot Week!
